Biado kampeon sa Vietnam 9-ball tilt

MANILA, Philippines — Muli na namang namayagpag ang bandila ng Pilipinas sa world stage ng billiards matapos masungkit ni world champion Carlo Biado ang korona sa Ho Chi Minh City Open na ginanap sa Ho Xuan Huong Gymnasium sa Vietnam.
Kinailangan ni Biado na ilatag ang buong puwersa nito sa buong panahon ng laban upang pigilan ang pagtatangka ni Mario He ng Austria at maitarak ang pukpukang 13-8 panalo sa finals.
Naibulsa ni Biado ang $35,000 premyo o mahigit P1.9 milyon habang nagkasya naman si He sa $13,000 runner-up purse (o mahigit P700,000).
Aminado si Biado na hindi naging madali ang daang tinahak nito partikular na sa finals dahil hindi birong kalaban si He na isa sa mahuhusay na cue masters sa kanyang henerasyon.
“Now I’m feeling exhausted but I’m very happy I won in the finals. Thanks to Mario He for a good game. He’s one of the best players in the world,” ani Biado.
Kabilang sa mga tinalo ni Biado si Wang Hu-Hsian ng Chinese-Taipei sa iskor na 11-7 sa Round of 32.
Dumaan muna sa butas ng karayom si Biado sa semis kung saan naitakas nito ang pahirapang 11-10 panalo laban kay Sanjin Pehlivanovic ng Bosnia para makapasok sa finals.
Sa kasalukuyan, may tatlong major title na sa taong ito si Biado.
Una na nitong nasungkit ang korona sa World Nine-Ball Tour sa Taipei, Taiwan noong Enero bago masikwat ang kampeonato sa World 10-Ball Championship sa Las Vegas, Nevada noong Marso.
Si Biado ang ikaapat na sunod na Pinoy cue masters na nagkampeon sa iba’t ibang bansa.
Una na si WPA Women’s World 9-Ball champion Rubilen Amit na sinundan nina Johann Chua at Jeffrey Ignacio.
