Vice Ganda, the undisputed phenomenal star and comedy icon, is back in action in her most unkabogable comeback yet! Teaming up with critically acclaimed director Jun Robles Lana, they’re cooking up something truly epic in the upcoming comedy extravaganza “And The Breadwinner Is…”!

Vice expressed her excitement about this groundbreaking collaboration between Star Cinema and The IdeaFirst Company during the New Movie Alert announcement last April 19. She gushed about her dream come true of working with Direk Jun, whose brilliant films have also become beloved contemporary movie classics.

“Ang daming pelikulang ginawa ng Star Cinema na naging paboritong bahagi ng mga buhay n’yo. Tsaka si Direk Jun Lana din, ang gaganda ng mga ginagawa n’yang pelikula,” Vice exclaimed. “Nakaka-flatter, nakaka-proud.”

“Kailangan ko rin ng isang Jun Lana,” Vice spoke further about the importance of this collaboration, especially its impact on his own comedic legacy. “Para maituloy din naman ‘yung maganda nating nasimulan. Kasi that’s the pressure eh right now.”

During the NMA broadcast, the curtain was lifted not only on the movie’s title, but Vice and Direk Jun also revealed more details about the film’s story, which would not just be about laughs, but also about heart. Direk Jun teased that this film would delve deeper into drama while maintaining the riotous comedy Vice is known for.

Direk Jun hinted: “It’s everything na hinihintay ng mga tao sa isang pelikula ni Vice. ‘Yung nakakatawa, ‘yung riot na comedy, and so much more. Kung nakita natin si Vice na magpatawa, makikita rin natin s’ya ngayon na mangurot ng mga puso natin.”

“We want to be able to encapsulate the movie, ‘yung spirit n’ya, ‘yung pagiging fun n’ya, but you know that there’s a heartwarming story to it,” the filmmaker added.

Vice herself admitted to initially shying away from heavy drama in her films, but with the team’s encouragement, she’s diving headfirst into this new territory.

“Dati kasi ayoko talaga ng maraming drama kasi feeling ko hindi ko ‘yun strength,” she recalled. “Pero the team has been convincing me, ‘No, it’s your strength.’”

The movie’s writers, Jonathan James Albano and Daisy Cayanan-Mejares, clued viewers in on the touching story focusing on a breadwinner and her family, which serves as a tribute to the unsung heroes who carry the weight of their loved ones’ dreams on their shoulders.

And let’s not forget the return of Jhong Hilario to the big screen which adds another layer of excitement to an already star-studded project. Vice Ganda confirmed Jhong’s inclusion in the cast as well.
