A former player has spoken out about the German manager.

One former Manchester United player has revealed one thing that former manager Ralf Rangnick did that left the whole dressing room in shock.

Rangnick joined the Red Devils in November 2021 as interim manager, replacing former player Ole Gunnar Solksjaer at the helm.

He stayed as manager until the end of the season, when he was replaced by current United boss Erik ten Hag.

The German regularly made headlines for his no-nonsense and sometimes brutal outlook at the club and now, one of his former players has revealed one thing that he did at the club that shocked the entire United dressing room.

United veteran Phil Jones spent 12 years at the club and played under seven different managers, including Rangnick.

And while speaking on the High Performance podcast, he revealed that Rangnick’s decision to start him during the match against Liverpool at Anfield in April 2022, only to substitute him off at half-time infuriated him and left his teammates stunned.

Speaking about the incident, he said: “At half-time I remember Ralf came in and said ‘right I’m going to make a change. Phil is going to come off ‘and I remember the whole dressing room kind of went (makes a shocked face) as if to say ‘why’s he bringing phill off here?’ and I know what everyone was thinking.

“I took my boots off and slammed them on the floor and said ‘you’re taking the f***ing p*** out of me’

Jones explained that such a reaction was out of character for him, adding: “Do you know what? I’ve never lost my head in a dressing room and I’ve never been emotional enough to lose myself in a dressing room and I think that’s the only time in my career that I completely lost it.

“I was absolutely raging that he humiliated me in front of an Anfield crowd, our fearsome rivals, our fans, my family and the players.

“And I’d actually done alright in the game, considering where I’d been and what I’d be going through with my knee, I don’t think I was exceptional but I definitely didn’t deserve to come off at half-time.

“There were far worse players on that pitch than me that day and I didn’t deserve to come off, but I’m the easiest to pull off because I haven’t played in 12 months and you’re an easy scapegoat.”
