Ruben Amorim and his staff will ‘assess’ a first-team player from November 11 onwards after they made a much-anticipated return to training on Friday.
Once he has fulfilled his obligations with Sporting Lisbon, who take on Braga on Sunday, Amorim will officially succeed Erik ten Hag as the next Manchester United head coach.
The 39-year-old, who has signed an initial two-and-a-half year contract at Old Trafford, will likely have a fully fit squad to work with in his opening weeks after a handful of players returned to training this week.
Ahead of United’s Europa League clash against PAOK on Thursday, summer signing Leny Yoro took part in his first session after a three-month absence.
He was joined by another long-term absentee, Tyrell Malacia, who has not played a competitive game for United since undergoing surgery on a knee injury last summer.
And on Friday morning, the club received another huge boost as Luke Shaw made his highly-anticipated return to training with the main group following a lengthy spell out with injury.
Shaw, who last featured for the club in February, will continue working back towards full fitness during the international break as he looks forward to making a return to the first-team fold.
After taking part in the session, Fabrizio Romano said Shaw will be ‘assessed’ by Ruben Amorim and his staff on November 11 as he continues to make progress.

Back in August, Shaw was criticised by former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, who called out his decision to play for England at Euro 2024.
“The one thing I have to say that really gets me and annoys me as a Manchester United fan is that Luke Shaw did not play since February for United and yet he still went to the Euros,” Schmeichel told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“He wasn’t playing in the group phase and I think he came in for the quarter-final, played some of the semi and then started the final.
“Now he’s injured again. He is so important because he has experience, he is a top-class left-back.
“He is a Manchester United player, we pay him. He should be focusing on and prioritising Manchester United and not his country.”
