NorthPort Batang Pier player John Amores of the PBA figured in a shooting incident in Laguna after a local basketball game got heated.

PBA player John Amores, along with his younger brother, were charged with attempted homicide after figuring in a shooting incident in Laguna.

Provincial prosecutors in Lumban filed the official complaint in the Municipal Trial Court of Lumban-Kalayaan on Thursday, September 26. This was released to the public on Friday, September 27, as posted by News5.

John Amores was caught on CCTV in the act of shooting a man he got into an altercation with after a local basketball game. He was driven to the area by his younger brother via motorcycle.

The two surrendered on Thursday morning after receiving threats on their lives,but did not provide a statement to the media.

Local prosecutors noted Amores had an “unlicensed gun and with intent to kill”.

The PBA player though may have a chance to walk, after prosecutors recommended a bail of P24,000 for the athlete, and P10,000 for his brother.

An attempted homicide charge carries a penalty of six to 12 years imprisonment.

Local police initially estimated Amores could face attempted murder charges.

The difference between homicide and murder lies in qualifying circumstances, according to the Revised Penal Code. An act would be considered murder if there is treachery, in consideration of a reward, if there is evident premeditation, or the act is done with cruelty.

This is not the first time Amores got into a physical altercation, as he was involved in at least two incidents during his collegiate days. However, this is the first reported incident that he used a firearm.
