“It’s Showtime” host, Vice Ganda, said it was “bothersome” after hearing a 20-year-old contestant admitting to not being knowledgeable about the function of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).

In a previous article, Vice was shocked to hear this, and the interview about COMELEC eventually went viral online. The 20-year-old contestant was asked for her message to COMELEC. What she knows is limited, for according to her, they have no TV at home and such a matter does not frequent her feed on her social media account.

The viral clip has generated discourse on social media, which raised questions about the  Philippines’ educational crisis and social media algorithms.

Recently, after it has gone viral, Vice addressed the issue in the recent episode of It’s Showtime. The segment has already ended, and he shared his realization from it. According to the comedian superstar, he realized two things: first, there are a lot of beautiful people in the Philippines, and second, there are systemic and educational problems in the country.

He realized that the educational crisis in the country is something that should be looked into seriously as the youths play a big role in voting for the country’s transformation. What went viral was saddening, but in hindsight, it sparked a conversation.
