A heartbreaking video of Police Colonel Pergentino Malabed Jr. bidding farewell to his family before his flight has deeply touched many netizens.

Recently, Rio Alanis Taganas-Malabed, Pergentino’s wife shared the last moments of the Malabed family together. The video quickly circulated on social media and breaks hearts of the online community.

In the video, Pergentino says to his daughter, Talna, “I’ll see you soon, baby.” Without knowing, this would be their final goodbye.

Malabed, the Chief of the PNP Supply Management Division, was among the 67 victims who lost their lives in a mid-air collision between an American Airlines flight and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter near Reagan National Airport in Washington, DC.

The police colonel had been on an official trip to the United States for a pre-delivery inspection of new bulletproof vests for the Philippine National Police (PNP). He had traveled with a colleague to India for a similar task and then proceeded to the US to finalize the vest tests.

On January 22, 2025, Malabed left for India with a non-commissioned officer and a non-uniformed personnel. After completing the inspection, he flew to the US on January 27, 2025.

On the night of January 29, as American Airlines Flight 5342 was approaching Reagan National Airport, it collided mid-air with the Black Hawk helicopter and crashed into the Potomac River.

The loss of Police Colonel Pergentino Malabed Jr. has left his family and the nation in mourning. On February 2, 2025 (Sunday), his wife traveled to the US to identify his remains.
