Darren Espanto opens up about past relationship with Kyline Alcantara

On the show Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Darren Espanto revealed that he and Kyline Alcantara dated in the past.

When asked what was the real story between him and Kyline, Darren answered, “Hindi ko po masasagot ng yes or no kasi it was a puppy love kind of thing.” Darren further explained that it happened when they were younger.

Kyline recently was a guest on the noontime show, It’s Showtime. Hosts, Vice Ganda and Kim Chiu were playfully teasing Darren with Kyline. During that playful exchange, Kyline joked, “Alam niyo po kung bakit? Kasi nga…”

Darren finally continued the “Kasi nga…” by saying, “Kasi nga naging kami dati, so kaya binibiro kami ni Ate Vice [Ganda].”

When asked how long the relationship lasted, he answered “A year, I think. A year and a half.” Darren mentioned how he was very comfortable with Kyline during the It’s Showtime episode.

Darren also shared the reason they broke up. He said, “There was some misunderstanding, and then when we both matured, parang six years later napag-usapan na namin and eventually we became okay with each other again, naging friends ulit kami.”

Boy Abunda asked if there was any third party involved which Darren denied, adding, “Misunderstandings talaga kasi siyempre kapag mga bata parang koting mga petty na away.”

Darren has been linked to Kyline in the past, but this was when he was first starting out as a singer. Along with Kyline, fans have also shipped Darren in the past with Andrea Brillantes, Ylona Garcia, and most recently, Cassy Legaspi.

Darren said that he maintains a good friendship with the girls he’s been shipped with.

Recently, Darren maintained that his relationship with Cassy Legaspi is platonic. He said in one interview that, “Best friends talaga. It’s something a lot of people won’t get. Hindi ko alam paano explain pero siyempre andun yung pagmamahal namin sa isa’t isa.”

In June 2021, Darren released the music video for his single “Tama Na” which featured Kyline with whom he had been already romantically linked at the time.
