Sa kanyang American TV show na Thirst With Shay Mitchell, may pahayag ang Canadian-born actress na “My dad’s Irish. My mom’s Spanish.”
Dahil dito, umani siya ng batikos sa social media at naging laman ng foreign news sites.
Naging topic of discussion din sa foreign TV programs ang pagtanggi ni Shay sa kanyang Filipino ethnicity.
Si Shay ay naging tanyag dahil sa popular Hollywood TV series na Pretty Little Liars, gayundin sa You sa Netflix.
Ang kanyang amang si Mark Mitchell ay Irish, habang pure-blooded Filipino ang kanyang inang si Precious Garcia.
MAUREEN WROBLEWITZ TAKES A SWIPE AT SHAY
Bagamat ilang linggo na ang nakakaraan mula nang pag-usapan ang ginawang pagtanggi ni Shay, kamakailan ay naglabas ng kanyang opinyon tungkol dito si Maureen, isang Filipino-German TV personality at beauty queen.
Nag-post si Maureen sa kanyang TikTok account.
Ipinakita niya sa post ang episode ng travel show ni Shay, kung saan ginawa nito ang pagde-deny sa kanyang Filipino roots.
Pahayag ni Maureen na napakamot ng ulo: “I am watching Thirst With Shay Mitchelle and she just said that her father is Irish and her mother is Spanish? Girl, I thought you were a Filipino! What?”
