Liverpool suffered their first defeat of the season at home to Nottingham Forest and Bruno Fernandes was quick to react.

The shock result of the weekend saw previously unbeaten Liverpool suffer their first loss under new manager Arne Slotafter a stunning goal from Callum Hudson-Odoi at Anfield.

Slot named an unchanged Liverpool side that helped the Dutchman to wins against Ipswich, Brentford and Manchester United but was unable to break down a regimented defensive setup from Nuno Espirito Santo.

On the other hand, Erik ten Hag got Manchester United’s season back on track with a 3-0 win against Southampton and it appears his players were keeping an eye on the fixture in Merseyside.

One of Fernandes’ former teammates, Anthony Elanga, played a key role in the goal – breaking down the Liverpool left before teeing up Hudson-Odoi.

Fernandes was quick to comment on his social media post after the game, making his feelings clear on Forest’s historic win.

He commented: “That assist man” with an applause emoji to show his appreciation for Elanga’s cameo off the bench.

Speaking after the game, Slot conceded his side were not good enough on the ball after failing to create goal scoring opportunities with over 70% possession at Anfield.

“I think the only thing we had influence on was ball possession because they played a lot of long balls, so if you then take the ball back you need to go past 11 players,” he said during his post-match press conference.

“We had a lot of ball possession but only managed to create three [or] four quite good chances, so that is by far not enough if you have so much ball possession. If you play so much in their half, we need to do much better. We lost the ball so many times in simple situations. That is, I think, the main story from the game: ball possession is not good enough.”
