Veteran host-comedian Joey de Leon reacted to the suspension of live-audience admission of his GMA-7 noontime show, Eat Bulaga!
Yesterday, March 9, the program’s management announced that live audience admission has been suspended as a preventive measure due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.
Its implementation began yesterday.
Joey revealed that the hosts were also notified about it yesterday.
“We were just told about it when we got to the studio yesterday morning,” the veteran actor-host said in an interview with Ricky Lo that appeared in The Philippine STAR this Tuesday, March 10.
According to Joey, it is not certain how long the suspension of live audience admission will last.
“A sign was placed at the entrance that we won’t be accepting ‘live’ audience for the meantime, but we don’t know how long it will last.”
Eat Bulaga! is held at APT Studios in Cainta, Rizal.

Yesterday, Eat Bulaga! released an official statement on all its social media platforms.
It states that the show is temporarily suspending live audience viewing due to the “COVID-19 outbreak in the Philippines, which has placed the country in a state of public health emergency.”
The move is intended to “help prevent the spread of the virus and to ensure the healthy and safety of its talent, staff, crew and members of its audience.”
Management’s plea: “Please understand that this decision was made after extensive and careful consideration in order to cooperate with government efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.”

Last night, President Rodrigo Duterte declared the country under a state of public health emergency due to the increasing number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country.
As of this writing, the DOH confirmed that there are now 24 cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines.
