Back-to-back PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo of San Miguel Beermen sealed his PBA Governor’s Cup championship conquest in the sweetest way possible: by planting a kiss on his girlfriend, former Lady Eagle Aerieal Patnongon.
The romantic moment came after the Beermen swept Alaska in a Best-of-Seven Finals series on Friday night for the PBA crown with Fajardo also winning the 2015 PBA Governors Cup Finals MVP plum.
Patnongon surely knows how it feels to win a championship, being a part of the Ateneo Lady Eagles squad that won back-to-back UAAP titles in 2014 and 2015 vs. perennial league powerhouse De La Salle Lady Spikers in both instances.
And with his second straight PBA MVP plum, Fajardo joined the elite circle of Bogs Adornado, Alvin Patrimonio and Danny Ildefonso who also won back-to-back PBA MVP plums.
Moreover, Fajardo is only two PBA MVP awards away from achieving the rare feat pulled off by Patrimonio and Ramon Fernandez—winning five PBA MVPs in their entire career.
In fact, Fajardo is like to pass such record by Patrimonio and Fernandez since the Kraken is only 25 years old.
On top of two PBA championships, Fajardo also won the Best Player of the Conference trophy—his third award of such kind.
It was indeed a heartwarming moment for the Kraken, who even suffered a bleeding scrotum barely a month of playing in the PBA in October 2012 after a physical rebound play. He even rode the bench for much of the 2013 FIBA Asia in Manila where the country won silver medal for its first ticket to World Cup after four decades.
It was quite a ride, June Mar. We say one kiss on Aerieal won’t be enough to celebrate the triumphs that you worked hard for. (Jen Soltano)
