New details have emerged about Tyreek Hill’s controversial arrest on Sunday morning, hours before the Miami Dolphins kicked off the 2024 regular season at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Tyreek Hill was driving to Hard Rock Stadium for Miami’s home opener before officers of the Miami-Dade Police Department pulled him over for speeding. Witness video and police bodycam footage show officers pulling Hill out of his car before handcuffing and slamming him to the ground.

Hill’s teammate, Calais Campbell, was also arrested when he arrived to try and de-escalate the situation. Both were eventually released and reached Hard Rock Stadium in plenty of time before kickoff.
ESPN’s Jeff Darlington shared photos of the police reports and citations issued to Tyreek Hill following his arrest. The speeding citation states that Hill was driving at a “visual estimation of 60 MPH”, and the other citation was a seatbelt violation:
The arresting officers have faced public backlash for their aggressive behavior and tactics during the incident. Hill showed no aggression and didn’t commit any threatening gestures towards the officers.
Miami-Dade Police Department Director Stephanie V. Daniels released a statement on Sunday, announcing that one of the officers involved had been placed on administrative leave.
Hill has lawyered up and is considering legal action against the officers. We’ll provide more details on the matter when they become available.

The disturbing incident did nothing to faze Hill’s on-field performance. The perennial Pro Bowler turned in a vintage Hill performance, catching seven passes for 130 yards and a touchdown in Miami’s 20-17 comeback victory.
Hill’s 80-yard touchdown in the third quarter cut the Jaguars’ lead to three and sparked Miami’s comeback. Kicker Jason Sanders made two field goals in the fourth quarter (including the game-winner as time expired) to lift the Dolphins to a season-opening victory.
