Unkabogable star Vice Ganda has made a powerful appeal to those who harbor religiously motivated prejudice against individuals with diverse gender identities, urging them to reflect on the true teachings of their faith.

This statement was made during an episode of ‘It’s Showtime’ on Thursday, August 8, after a contestant named Ivan in the ‘EXpecially For You’ segment came out as gay.

Ivan shared the difficulties he faced growing up in a religious household, where he felt compelled to hide his true self due to fear of judgment.

“Syempre kapagka bading ka, diretso ka na do’n [sa impyerno]. Hanggang sa ‘yong childhood ko, hindi ko nakilala ‘yong sarili ko,” Ivan explained, recounting how he struggled with his sexual identity from a young age. “Kailangan kong magtago kasi kung hindi baka kung ano gawin sa akin no’ng ibang relatives ko.”

In response, Vice Ganda reminded viewers that the core of all religions is rooted in love, empathy, compassion, kindness, and respect. He emphasized that any belief system that encourages hatred or discrimination needs to be re-evaluated.

“All religions are coming from love and empathy and compassion and kindness and respect. So, if your religion is teaching you otherwise, it’s about time to re-evaluate yourself and your faith,” Vice Ganda declared.

“Walang relihiyon na nagtuturo sa mga tao na magkaroon ng poot. ‘Dapat magalit ka sa kaniya. Magkaroon ka ng poot. Ay, ‘wag mo siyang tatanggapin. Dapat maging malupit ka sa kaniya.’ Anong relihiyon ‘yon? All religion are coming from love,” he added.

The popular host also drew from his own experiences, expressing solidarity with Ivan by admitting that he too had once hidden his true identity out of fear of judgment.

Vice Ganda concluded by commending Ivan for his bravery in coming out and encouraged others to embrace love and acceptance, in line with the true spirit of religious teachings.
