The Success of their currentlyrunning primetime series My Girl proves that Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson are today’s hottest and most popular young loveteam.

And as befits their status as ABSCBN’s number-one young loveteam, the projects just keep coming.

Right after My Girl ends first week of September, there is another project already awaiting them, a clear indication that contrary to rumours, ABS-CBN management has no plans of pairing Kim with another leading man, and Gerald, with another actress – well, at least not yet.

That news makes a lot of people happy, including Kim and Gerald themselves. Although they have never admitted to a real-life romance, they are good friends and have remained so since their Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition days. But Gerald admits that Kim is ‘special’ to him, and it’s why he gave her that much talked-about pink car for her birthday. He says he wanted to do something equally special for Kim, something that is ‘out of this world’.

Gerald doesn’t think he would feel comfortable acting onscreen with anyone else. “Whatever people see between us onscreen is not forced.

We’re acting, but we’re not acting, you know? Because with Kim and me, we’ve been friends since our PBB days, and our chemistry is very natural. We show the same sweetness on and off screen – well, except for the kissing part,” he laughs.

Doing My Girl, which is a daily show, and which means seeing each other everyday for the last six months, has made them even closer.

“For some reason, we’ve become even closer,” he says.

Gerald won’t even allow himself to think of working with any other onscreen partner. “I’m not as comfortable acting with someone else, especially when we do intimate scenes,” says Gerald. “Kim and I are really comfortable with each other.”

He is very secure in his team-up with Kim that reports that other young actors – like My Girl co-star Enchong Dee – are interested in her doesn’t bother him one bit. “I can’t really react (to those rumours) since I don’t see anything out of the ordinary going on. Right now, we’re really all just friends. I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.”

Kim, for her part, says that there are times when she and Gerald quarrel. “But it’s just playful quarrelling; it’s nothing major,” she qualifies. “I’m happy working with him (Gerald). We help each other when we’re together on the set.”

She knows that the day will come when she will probably be paired with other leading men. “Yes, I know, but I hope not yet. I’m not yet ready,” she says. “It’s only been two years since our team-up started.”

Since then, Kim and Gerald have starred in several shows together – they’ve done Let’s Go, Go Kada Go, Sana Maulit Muli, Maligno and the movie I’ve Fallen For You, which was a big box-office hit. My Girl is their latest project together.
