Kim Atienza Faces Pressure After Succeeding Ka Ernie Baron

KIM ATIENZA – Kapuso host Kuya Kim Atienza said he felt pressured when he replaced Ka Ernie Baron.

Kuya Kim Atienza, who replaced the renowned news anchor and weather presenter Ka Ernie Baron, was once one of the hosts of the morning show. However, according to the TV host, he felt immense pressure when he took over the latter’s position.

In the vlog of entertainment reporter and talent manager Ogie Diaz, Kuya Kim admitted that he still makes mistakes occasionally. He said this was the main source of pressure when he replaced Ka Ernie.

“Nu’ng ang pinalitan ko si Ka Ernie Baron, hindi puwedeng magkamali kasi walking encyclopedia, [ang] daming tama. So ang expectation sa akin ng tao, ‘Hindi rin nagkakamali ‘yan,’” he said.

But according to Kuya Kim, this is impossible because no one is infallible. Instead, people should focus on upgrading and improving themselves. For him, one way to know what to improve is by listening to feedback.

“Siyempre tumatawag ako sa mga taong mas matagal na sa akin sa industriya. May mga mentor ako na tumutulong sa akin at nagko-correct sa akin kung ano’ng dapat kong gawin,” he said.

Aside from hosting TiktoClock, Kuya Kim is also known for addressing trending topics on social media or sharing new knowledge. However, he said many people also correct him on these matters.

“May mga tao talaga na ang hobby talaga, maghintay na magkamali ako. ‘Kailan kaya magkakamali si Kim?’ Lalo na sa X, lalo na sa Twitter, pag nagkagkamali ka sa X, naku! Tatlong araw kang trending,” he said.

He added that when he was starting, there was no social media yet, so they weren’t easily bashed or corrected by people. But now that many are using various platforms, according to Kuya Kim, the corrections come instantly.

“You get called out two minutes after you say it. Two minutes after you say it, meron na kaagad sa Twitter, lalo na sa X. ‘Pag sinabi mo, ‘pag tingin mo du’n, trending ka na, hindi mo alam kung bakit,” he said.

But Kuya Kim clarified that he doesn’t apologize for the facts he shares, especially if they come from credible sources. Instead, he only apologizes if he has hurt someone.

“’Yung pagso-sorry naman, hindi naman kahulugan na mali ka e, puwede kang mag-sorry na nakasakit ka, whether you like it or not. Du’n ako nag-sorry. Pero du’n sa sinabi kong mga facts, those are facts, those are based on science,” he explained.

“When you say sorry, you say sorry because nakasakit ka, ‘yun lang ‘yun,” Kuya Kim added.
