HOT NEWS: June Mar Fajardo overcame all the difficult challenges to win the first championship: ‘Sobrang saya shocked the fans deservedly’ (SKDA)

After getting shackled by the Alaska defense most of the series, June Mar Fajardo saved his best for last and unleashed his top form in Game Seven of the Philippine Cup finals to help San Miguel Beer win its 20th PBA title on Wednesday.

The Kraken had a monster performance of 21 points and 25 rebounds in 45 minutes on the court, his highest output in the best-of-seven series which saw him limited to 13 points per game in the first six skirmishes.

His teammate Arwind Santos got the finals Most Valuable Player award, but for the 6-foot-11 slot man, his first championship ring in the league is what matters the most.

“Sobrang saya ko na nakuha ko ‘yung first championship ko. Ito ‘yung pinaka dream ko e, na makakuha ng championship,” said the Cebuano center, who shot 15 of his 21 points in the first half. “Hindi ko ma-express kung anong feeling ko ngayon, sobrang naghahalo-halo.”

The league’s top draft pick in 2012, he has won numerous individual awards and achievements, including the Most Valuable Player award last season but still failed to win a championship for the Beermen.

This conference, his fortunes clearly changed as he won the Best Player of the Conference award back in Game Four and finally won a championship in his third season in the league.

“Sana ito na ‘yung start nang magandang nangyari sa career ko, nag-Best Player ako tapos nag-champion ako,” he said. “Sobrang saya lang, sobrang blessed lang ako ni God.”
