Thomas Tuchel has explained why he picked the England job over the Manchester United position during his official unveiling.

Tuchel was presented to the assembled media at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday following his England appointment.

He fielded questions from the press as he was asked whether he’d sing ‘God Save The King’ national anthem.

Tuchel was also pressed on reports linking him with the managerial gig at Man United amid intense speculation on Erik ten Hag’s future.

Asked why he chose England over Man United, he referenced the vision put forward by FA chief executive officer Mark Bullingham.

“Because the idea and the way John and Mark presented it, was very fast, very exciting. It was very confidential, it was very trustful, it was very straightforward,” he explained.

“That was basically the decision for this job and not a decision against anything else.

“You will understand I will not comment on individual players today and for sure not comment on any other clubs.”

The FA accelerated plans to hire Tuchel amid renewed interest from Man United this month following the club’s shaky start to the new season.

They refused to clarify Ten Hag’s position last week and have not entertained queries about a potential managerial change.

According to a report, an external source suggested the German had a verbal agreement to take over at Man United, but club figures have denied that.

The Red Devils will now have to look elsewhere should they relieve Ten Hag of his managerial duties at Old Trafford.

Tuchel, meanwhile, returns to England having managed in the Premier League with Chelsea, where he guided the Blues to Champions League glory.

The 51-year-old had been out of work following his departure from Bayern Munich at the end of last season.
