Revelation of Nadine Luster during the Roadkillers mediacon recently, it is said that the character of Bodjie Pascua (as Nato Sunico) and his real father Ulysses Luster are similar in many aspects. "When my Dad watched the Roadkillers, he seemed to say, 'I'm just like Bodjie [Pascua].' Which is, when we were shooting, Tito Bodjie really reminds me of my Dad."

Bodjie Pascua played the role of Nadine Luster’s father in the action-thriller mini-series Roadkillers, which revolves around the daughter’s deep love for her father.

At the recent Roadkillers screening/mediacon , Nadine had a revelation. Bodjie and his real father, Ulysses Luster, are said to be similar in many ways.

“When my Dad watched the Roadkillers, he seemed to say, ‘I just look like Bodjie [Pascua].’ Which is, when we were shooting, Tito Bodjie really reminds me of my Dad,” said Nadine .

“Because, everything…like his jokes, the way he talks, and the character of Tito Bodjie [Nato Sunico]  Since my Dad is actually a mechanic, his profession. So, me, I grew up as a tinkerer really.  So, I really like tinkering, you know my classmate’s even Wite-Out tape , I fix it just because I’m fascinated by my dad who likes… he’s good at repairing stuff like play station controllers , it got fixed he.

“So, I grew up that’s just how Stacey is.”

(Stacey is her character in Roadkillers .)

“But my Dad , he’s not a politician’s henchman ,” he laughed,  referring to Bodjie’s character in the series.

“But he’s the same [as Nato],” he continued referring to Bodjie’s character. ” I’m also very angry with my dad .

“So, while we were shooting the series, every time I had an interaction or scene with Tito Bodjie, I really remembered my dad .”

Strange Nadine Luster will be seen here again. This is because it has become Nadine’s mantra to look for out-of-the box projects. It’s like the darker, the better.

In the case of Roadkillers, the focus is really on the journey of the characters, especially her character Stacey.

“I don’t think there’s a lesson or takeaway after watching the series,” pagpapaka-totoo niya. “It’s really more of the journey of Stacey and actually, lahat kami. As you can see, ‘yung character ni Jerome (Ponce), may pinagdaanan din siya from the very beginning of the series and I guess, with my character naman as Stacey, it’s really showing the kind of relationship that she has with her father and I guess, the length that she’s willing to do.”

In the story, it appears that the pandemic is still at its peak and his father is one of the victims of the virus and they had a hard time finding a room in the hospital. There it is shown that because he loves his father so much, he can kill others to prolong his father’s life.

Nadine said, in real life, she can’t do that.

“I think, I won’t be able to take someone else’s life just to save my father,” he admitted shaking his head.  “Me, personally, I don’t think I can handle that. But I commend Stacey because she really loves her father that much . It’s up to his values and until the very end, he really did his father ‘s wishes .”

But more than the dark character, another factor that made Nadine agree to accept Roadkillers is because of the action scenes involved. He is also the type to be an action star.

So he said this is the fulfillment of one of his dreams.

“You know, I really like to act. And when Director [Rae Red] pitched the project to me, of course, I would say yes. Because, I really wanted to act for a long time.”

And for Roadkillers, he is said to have participated in stunts training before joining the set.

“I trained in firing with the gun and assembling it. Our stunts too , we really had to rehearse that.

“Especially the environmental condition, you saw the scenes … in the sand, rocky . So, it’s really tricky . And as much as possible, the directors, they wanted the stunts to be realistic.   It’s not the action movie, it’s just realistic because at the end of the day, Stacey isn’t a superhero, she’s a normal person.  So, it’s really a lot of that.  But, I really enjoyed him.”

That is, even though it was admitted that he and his co-stars were hurt by the stunt in the rocky area.

“Actually, it was the rock that hurt us. When we fall, it really hurts. But, we enjoyed it a lot.”

After Roadkillers, what other roles will Nadine take on?

“I’m darker ,” he explained. “And it’s really just because my projects before, romcoms , dramas…so, now , I ‘m at a point where I want to -explore different genres. I wanna do more challenging roles.

“And I always say this, I think I really want a role that … well, it’s funny because I think I read an article with the headline: ‘ Nadine doesn’t want to be in a love team anymore. Want to be a psychopath…’”

“‘Yun naman po kasi ang palagi kong sinasabi. It’s very interesting doing a role of a psychopath or a killer or someone who is a villain. Just trying to figure out how this person’s mind works.

“Because it’s me, I love such intricate details. People are studied and personally, I really like watching those documentaries.  You know, I love horror, psychological thriller, I want to dive into that.

“So far , all of the projects or at least, the direction that I am taking, is really going there.   So, I’m really, really excited about what the next project will be pitched to me.”

Roadkillers , produced by Studio Viva, will be available worldwide through the Viva One app starting March 1 .
