June Mar Fajardo joined the San Miguel Beermen (SMB) in Pampanga in their preparation for the resumption of the stalled 2021 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup in the province.
Team manager Gee Abanilla confirmed the development to GMA News Online but stressed the 6-foot-10 beanpole is still adjusting, especially after the untimely death of his mother Marites.
“June mar joined the team in Pampanga. He is still adjusting but his second family will be there to help him,” Abanilla said in a short message.
Prior to his mother’s death, Fajardo was also coming off an injury on his right tibia during a practice back in February 2020 that had sidelined him for more than a year.
He only made a comeback this conference and was able to suit up for all four games the Beermen had played before the games was called off last August 3.
In those four games, the six-time PBA Most Valuable Player logged in unusual minutes and statlines as he only averaged nearly 23 minutes per outing.
He also posted norms of 10.75 points highlighted by a 16-point output during their 99-80 victory against Blackwater on July 28 while also grabbing almost eight rebounds per game.
Beermen are currently fourth in the team standings with a 3-1 win-loss card.
