June Mar Fajardo took charge in the endgame as the San Miguel Beermen escaped with a 109-108 overtime win against Terrafirma Dyip in the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup on Thursday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
With the score tied at 90-all, Fajardo converted back-to-back three-point plays for a 98-92 Beermen lead but the Dyip forced an overtime on two consecutive triples by John Paul Calvo.
Fajardo scored four quick points to start the extension period as the Beermen took a 104-103 lead but the Dyip notched the lead at 108-106 on five straight points by rookie Allen Mina.
Fajardo, however, completed another three-point play to swing the lead to the Beermen at 109-108. The Dyip had a chance to win it but Javi Gomez de Liano misfired his layup try.
Fajardo finished with 26 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists, while Marcio Lassiter and Jaymar Perez chipped in 23 and 20 markers, respectively, as the Beermen solidified its hold of the no.1 spot with 9-1 slate.
Eric James Camson tallied 20 points, Gomez de Liano and Calvo contributed 19 markers apiece, while Andreas Cahilig and Mina chipped in 17 and 13, respectively, as the Dyip remained win-less after nine games.
