Sustaining ratings that are twice as high as its toughest rival, the Kapamilya noontime show proved it can turn any controversy to its favor.

Reflected by sky high ratings, that are usually more than double that of EAT Bulaga‘s, It’s Showtime surprisingly did not only keep its audience, it even expanded in viewership and achieved near-record ratings, amid the recent controversies it confronted. Last June 12, for example, the show logged a 9.2 combined people ratings. That’s more than twice as high as EAT Bulaga’s 4.0, and just 0.5 short of breaking the 9.7 people rating logged by the show’s debut episode on GMA. It is worth-noting, It’s Showtime has consistently beaten  the four-decade TVJ-led show, since its debut on GMA Network, last April 6.

But when you look back at the recent controversy that rocked the noontime show, you might wonder why it was able to draw more viewers. They say negative publicity is still publicity, which brings us to wonder, ‘is the upward trend in viewership’ amid these chaotic issues, actually pushing the show to unprecedented viewership?

One should note, the negative publicity received by It’s Showtime, and especially its main host, Vice Ganda, is rumored to be primarily driven by a demolition job, rumored to be orchestrated by some groups. To some, that only proves Vice Ganda’s massive star power, that several groups are keen to bring her down and take the people’s support away from her.

But when you look at how much support Vice Ganda and It’s Showtime, have been getting these past few days, it is actually not hard to get convinced, that all these hullabaloos and issues being thrown at the show and its hosts, are only helping the show get more support, and thus higher viewership.
