Alex Gonzaga and Kim Chiu on the death of Barbie Hsu. Here are their statements.

BARBIE HSU DEATH – The famous Asian actress has passed away at 48 and fans Alex Gonzaga and Kim Chiu were saddened about this.

Shan Cai, the main character from the popular Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden, is an iconic figure in Asian pop culture. She rose to fame and gave strength to women of that time to stand up for themselves. Her character, more than being a feisty and charming student, served as a model to many that regardless of gender, no one can fight for you better than yourself.

This role was played by Barbie Hsu who recently passed away due to pneumonia. She is survived by her husband, South Korean musician DJ Koo, and her two children from her first Wang Xiao Fei, whom she divorced in 2021.

A lot of fans from all over the world mourned her death and among these fans are Kim Chiu and Alex Gonzaga.

In a post on X, Chiu expressed her sadness and surprise over the news. It then drove her back to the time when she would always watch the episode aired every afternoon from school.

“OMG!!!! I love you SanChai!!!! May you rest in peace! Thank you sa makulay namin childhood. Pigtail braids!” she added.

In an Instagram story, Alex wondered what Dao Ming Si would feel about this heartbreaking news. She is an avid fan of the series and way back in 2019, she and Luis Manzanodressed up as Shan Cai and Dao Ming Si, respectively, for an apparent parody project.

In a previous article, Jerry Yan, the actor playing Dao Ming Si, released a statement following her death’s confirmation.

He wrote:

“Thankful for meeting you, in your carefree childlike years, you always said to live everyday as if it were your last and enjoy it to the fullest. I hope this time, you will go slowly, and from now on, in another world, there will be no troubles and the years will be peaceful.”
