Scott McTominay left Manchester United for Napoli during the summer transfer window.
Erik ten Hag has made a huge admission over Scott McTominay’s transfer away from Manchester United this summer.
McTominay, who graduated from Man United’s famed youth academy, ended his association with the club by joining Napoli for £25.7 million.
He’s already made a huge impression in Italy, having scored two goals in five Serie A games for his new side.
So much so, Italian media have given him a nickname following his incredible start at the Naples-based outfit.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of taking on Brentford, Ten Hag was asked about McTominay’s early form.
He admitted he’s happy for him while revealing that he didn’t want him to leave, referencing Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
“No, I’m very happy for Scott,” he said. “As I said when he left, I didn’t want this, but it is the rules.
“The club have to deal with the [Financial] Fair Play rules and the rules are not great.
“The rules are, I would even say, bad, but that is the situation this club created by the rules and it forced us to make this decision.”

In terms of goals, McTominay enjoyed the best campaign of his career last season.
He made 43 appearances across all competitions, scoring 10 goals.
But Man United were forced to sell the midfielder to comply with the league’s financial rules.
Ten Hag won’t be able to call upon the 27-year-old’s services for the Red Devils’ league clash against Brentford at Old Trafford.
In last season’s fixture, McTominay scored twice in stoppage time to inspire Man United’s come-from-behind victory over Brentford.
Ten Hag is in need of a result as his team occupy 14th place in the league and have already suffered three defeats in their opening seven league games.
