It took Chido Obi-Martin just 13 minutes to score a hat-trick on his full debut for Man Utd under-18's

Remember the name.

Chido Obi-Martin has netted a 13-minute hat-trick on his full debut for Manchester United under-18’s.

The highly-rated 16-year-old, who joined United in September following the expiration of his schoolboy deal at Arsenal, has been training at Carrington for several weeks.

Earlier this month, It was suggested that he would not be rushed into playing a competitive fixture for the academy but last weekend, the teenager made his Manchester United under-18 debut after coming off the bench in their 4-3 win over Sunderland.

A week later and Obi-Martin was handed a much-anticipated start against Nottingham Forest – and it didn’t take him long to make an impact.

The Denmark under-17 international opened his account after just 13 seconds, rounding the goalkeeper after a slack piece of defending. And four minutes later, he made it 2-0 with a powerful strike.

 

Then, in the 13th minute, Obi-Martin tapped in from close range to seal his hat-trick.

The teenager’s efforts shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given his strike rate for Arsenal’s youth teams. In total, Obi-Martin netted 32 times in 18 games for their under-18’s, including 10 goals in a single game against Liverpool.

It was widely reported that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta held talks with the 16-year-old in an effort to convince him to remain in North London, but Obi-Martin’s camp are said to have wanted their player to be promoted straight into the under-21’s.

United will double the wage Arsenal were willing to pay for the youngster, according to The Metro, and the player has been offered potential first-team football at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag.
