Atong Ang’s daughter tells a story about Gretchen
On the premiere night of Two Love You, many were surprised when Gretchen Barretto arrived with a beautiful Chinese woman and after greeting and posing for pictures with the film’s producer Ogie Diaz, she immediately left.
She brought Atong Ang’s daughter Elaine Yu, who is in the film and plays the character of Yen Santos’ best friend, to the event.
Elaine is the one we’ve been hearing about for a long time, Atong’s daughter who would rather be an actress than a businessperson like her daddy. She’s also the one our common friend, who is a daddy’s girl, told us about, but the budding actress denied it, saying it just happened that they always met and hung out with their father.
“She’s super supportive of me (Gretchen), she’s really close to our family, to my children too.
“They’re in business (with Tony Boy), so we regularly see each other at parties, she (Greta) cooks deliciously, she always sends us (food),” Elaine said about why she is close to the controversial personality.
And because of the conflict between the Barretto sisters, Gretchen, Marjorie and Claudine, isn’t Elaine affected and didn’t she think her father was having an affair at first?
“They said, it’s not my battle (laughing), so it’s not my battle. I’m not affected because the news is different in reality (what’s happening). The important thing is that we’re an intact family, our circle is good,” Atong Ang’s daughter said with a smile.
She also said she has bashers, “actually, my Instagram followers have increased by 200 since the Barretto (feud), so that has a good effect on me. Those who bash, it’s okay, I don’t answer because I’m not involved and it won’t help me either.”
Meanwhile, Ogie, Elaine’s manager, previously mentioned that her career has a future because she knows how to act and is obedient.
And Elaine also mentioned that she took workshops with Ogie and Ina Feleo. When she was young, she always wanted to be an actress and in fact, she passed the audition for Ang TV back then, along with Camille Prats and Angelica Panganiban.
“Director Bobot (Mortiz) accepted me, but he was going to remove me from the Chinese school (where he was studying), so my parents didn’t allow me. Then we went to America when I was 15-23 years old.
“I was still acting there in LA (Los Angeles), in Vegas (Las Vegas), modeling because I had an agent there. Well, I went home (to the Philippines) and then I got married and had a child. That’s why I only came back (showbiz) last year, so we approached uncle Ogie to help us and manage me,” Elaine said.
We asked him why he had a career in America, why did he come back to the Philippines and he didn’t regret it because other famous artists here really wanted to go there.
“It’s still happier in the Philippines, it’s still different here because everyone is like one family, in America everyone is far away so, it’s still okay here,” explained Ogie’s pet.
At the age of 34, it’s not obvious to Elaine because she is the 16-year-old daughter of Aga Muhlach who passed NUUK.
“That’s just a dream, but when I work with good people, instead of feeling pressured, I learn to be more humble. That’s why I want those (types of artists) who challenge me,” Elaine said.
And she never dreamed of being a star, “I feel like I prefer drama, though I’ve done comedy and enjoyed it, but I prefer drama especially when I’m a villain. Because being pitied doesn’t suit me, so I’ll just be the villain.”
What if Julia Barretto cast her as the villain, (Elaine laughed), “that’s okay, she’s the kind one, I’m the villain!”
Elaine got noticed because she’s the daughter of Atong Ang who is connected to the Barretto sisters.
“Yes, it helped because I wouldn’t have been noticed if it weren’t for them but my work would still be the one that stood out, it shouldn’t just be popularity, it should be work,” the actress reasoned.
She also thanked Gretchen, “thank you tita G for finding time to come here and for supporting our movie and promoting it.”
