Christine Fan threatens lawsuit over allegations of indirectly causing Barbie Hsu’s death

26 Feb – After keeping mum for weeks since the news of Barbie Hsu’s passing shocked the world, Christine Fan (aka FanFan) recently released a statement via a lawyer to warn netizens to not publish slander against her and husband Blackie Chen.

Earlier, netizens pointed fingers at the Taiwanese singer and her husband for Barbie’s passing, after the two revealed on social media on 22 January that their sons were hospitalised for the flu, and then attending the same event that Barbie was at a few days later.

Following the accusations, on 21 February, FanFan publicly shared Blackie’s conversation with the doctor, the latter who said that FanFan did not have the influenza and that the persistent coughing was caused by mycoplasma and not the flu. At the same time, the doctor also clarified that Blackie is no longer contagious after taking the medicine on 25 January.

She posted that her children stayed home and did not attend the same banquet they were at earlier adding, “I really hope that there can be less malice in this world, even a little bit.”

However, she deleted the post soon after, following a backlash from netizens.

In response to this, FanFan’s management company in China issued a three-point statement on 23 February through a Beijing law firm, stating that some online accounts have forwarded and fabricated false information about Christine Fan since early February, which has seriously damaged the spirit, reputation and image of the relevant personnel.

“Please ask the relevant network operators to immediately delete the infringing information, and the relevant personnel to immediately delete the relevant articles or comments, and take all measures to eliminate the impact to recover the losses of the client and related personnel.”

They also stated that they have no hesitation to use legal means against those who continue to spread such misinformation.

Barbie Hsu passed away on 2 February in Tokyo with her family saying that she died from pneumonia stemming from influenza complications.
