Valentine Rosales Apologizes for Comparing Belle Mariano to Francine Diaz

“Hindi naman siya pangit. She’s beautiful in her own way. Hindi lang siya ‘yung taste ko or type ko.”

Earlier this month, internet personality Valentine Rosales drew flak for comparing Belle Mariano‘s physical appearance to Francine Diaz in a series of tweets. Although Valentine’s posts were criticized by Belle’s supporters, both Belle and Francine have stayed mum on the issue.

Now, weeks later, the content creator finally explained his side of the story in an interview with Ogie Diaz.

Valentine stressed that Belle’s looks are simply not in line with his personal “taste” in beauty, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the actress is unattractive: “Hindi naman siya pangit. She’s beautiful in her own way. Hindi lang siya ‘yung taste ko or type ko.”

Touching on why he decided to post his thoughts in the first place, he added, “Opinion ko lang ‘yun. Twineet ko lang ‘yun, ganoon kasi ako. Kung ano nafe-feel ko, ano nararanasan ko, ano ‘yung nararamdaman ko as of the moment, tine-tweet ko siya. Parang online diary ko ‘yung Twitter.”

Apart from clarifying his posts, Valentine also divulged that he’s open to meeting Belle personally someday. He then admitted that he should have never compared her to Francine in the first place, especially because they’d never interacted with each other.

Hindi ko naman siya kilala as a peron, malay mo naman mabait ‘yung ugali. Malay mo naman mabait na bata. Hindi ako iiwas sa kaniya, gusto ko siya makilala as a person if ever. Mukha naman siyang mabait,” he shared.

He went on, “‘Yun lang, nagsabi lang ako ng opinion ko about her. Sa ka-age niya, mga ka-group levels niya, like si Francine, si Andrea [Brillantes], si Alexa Ilacadsabi ko, ang pinaka-type ko na itsura diyan si Francine.”

Pero ang mali ko doon is gusto kong puriin ‘yung isa, nag-compare pa ako ng isang tao,” he admitted. “If ever mapanood ‘to ni Belle Mariano, if na-offend ko siya, I want to apologize. You have your own beauty, may sarili kang kagandahan, mabait ‘yung ugali mo.

After the interview, Valentine reached out to Belle on Instagram to apologize again. He posted a screenshot of his message, which read, “Hi Belle. I’m reaching out to say sorry if I have offended you or hurt you by comparing you to someone. I was not aware of my actions and how I can affect someone especially you.”

As of writing, Belle hasn’t responded to Valentine and released a statement regarding the issue.
