Sharon Cuneta shares her struggles of being a single mom

“I used my work as a distraction and KC as one of my inspirations …” shares Sharon Cuneta as she recalls her struggles of being a single mother.

Megastar Sharon Cuneta couldn’t help but recall the struggles of being a single mom to her daughter KC Concepcion in 1987, the year her marriage with Gabby Concepcion ended.

In a lengthy post on Instagram, Sharon said that she decided to drown herself with work after her marriage failed.

She said, “Having lost my marriage, I did everything — almost to the point of throwing up blood — because I used my work as a major distraction and KC as one of my inspirations to excel in my work.

“I didn’t stop until the public acknowledged me as being number one in the business, sealing my titles of ‘Megastar’ which the press had christened me with.”

She explained that although her career flourished, she lost her “sense of self-worth, my self-esteem, and my trust in people and falling in love.”

All she had, at that moment, was her daughter KC.

“Everything, every sacrifice was for her. Always HER first.

“But how does a single mother achieve 100% in both her work and in spending time with her child? Kulang na lang hatiin ko katawan ko.

“I had to put food on the table, pay her tuition fees in the best schools in the country, buy her beautiful things, give her a home, albeit incomplete, missing a father.”

To top it all, she even refused to go back home to her father because she wanted to set an excellent example to KC “to be able to rely on one’s self and not on any man to live.”

“Basta ako, alam kong I did everything for her. Alam ni God ‘yon.

“Pati sa pagpili ng mapapangasawa uli, una kong inisip ang magiging mabuting ama sa kanya over sa magiging mabuting asawa sa akin.

“Lahat, God knows everything. I gave it my best. I can live with that peacefully until the day I die.”

Last week, Sharon reminded her daughter, KC, how special she is to their family after she opened up about her parents’ separation in an interview.

She said, “She [KC] didn’t choose to be born into a family that started with so much love only to be broken apart into a million pieces, like her mother’s heart…

“If I could…I would turn back the clock, and though I know the break-up still would have happened, I would try to shield her innocence from time. But the part of life I gave her isn’t mine.

“Yet I would if only I could…Once, we were a family. And in a sense, whether we – or they – like it or not, we three still always will be, my Maria Kristina Cassandra Cuneta Concepcion.”
