Senator Robin Padilla has issued an apology to those who got offended over his queries and remarks during a Senate hearing about a sensitive issue. Many people online reacted and his remarks received a backlash online.

Senator Padilla’s question about marital consent, in particular, caught lot of attention. He asked human rights lawyer Lorna Kapunan, “So paano ‘yun kung ayaw ng asawa mo? So wala pong ibang paraan talaga? Para ma-ano ‘yung lalaki, so paano ‘yun, mambabae ka na lang ba?”

Padilla defended himself in a post and expressed that he never said that it was “okay” for husbands to force their wives. In his defense, the queries is just his way to relay some information about the matter. He cited that violence among women recorded a high percentage with most of the cases in the Bicol region, Ilocos region, and Mimaropa as per the National Demographic and Health survey in 2022.

Making a sly remark about the backlash to her husband was Mariel Padilla. In a post, she shared a photo of them kissing with the caption saying: “Oh may consent yan ah”.

It was a remark showing how she lightly took the matter but at the same time, showing her support to him. In the comment section, the senator left a note telling his “babe” he is “in heat” with Mariel responding to it that it’s a tie.

This public display of affection online earned a lot of comments with most of them spewing negative words at the senator and his behavior with his wife in that particular.
