WATCH: Nora Aunor’s new movie on corrupt politicians feels very, very real

It’s a must-see, especially this election season.

Sometimes, Philippine politics feels like you’re watching a very convoluted movie. Then, with a sinking feeling, you suddenly realize that it’s all very, very real. Enter Nora Aunor‘s latest film offering, Whistleblower, which turns the real-life drama and corruption into fiction.

At the center of the tale is a quiet and unassuming accountant named Zeny Roblado (Aunor). She is embroiled in a national scandal involving a scheming high-profile businesswoman (Cherry Pie Picache), who makes headlines for her ties to greedy government officials. (Sound familiar?)

In desperation, Zeny turns to a reporter (Angelica Panganiban) to expose the truth. It turns out even that has a price, too.

The drama is directed by the critically acclaimed Adolfo Adix Jr., whose previous films include Donsol (2006), Manila (2009), Presa (2010), and Muli (2010). Whistleblower was initially slated to be part of 2014’s MMFF, but was snubbed in favor of other selections that year.

Whistleblower will be opening the second CineFilipino Film Festival on March 15 at Resorts World Manila. It opens nationwide in cinemas on April 6.
