Kim Chiu in tears after watching trailer for “Bawal Lumabas” series, says “one mistake doesn’t define you as a person.”
On Instagram last Tuesday, December 1, Kim Chiu posted a video of herself crying with her song “Bawal Lumabas” in the background.
It turned out that she, along with her hairstylist and make-up artist Haidz Fernandez, just watched the trailer for a series inspired by the song.
The actress-host was in tears as she said the series trailer was a flashback to where the statement has got her, from being bashed to making it a mainstream success.
“Nag flashback [sa’kin] lahat simula nag start ang Bawal Lumabas,” she wrote in the caption. “Maraming salamat po [Mr. Deo Endrinal] and sa [Dreamscape Entertainment], [iWant] [KreativeDen] sa opportunity na ito. One Mistake won’t define you as a person.”
It could be recalled that the song was inspired by Kim’s statement of her comparing the National Telecommunications Commission’s decision to halt ABS-CBN’s broadcast operations last May to a classroom setting, causing confusion among netizens.
“Sa classroom may batas, bawal lumabas, oh bawal lumabas. Pero ‘pag sinabi, ‘pag nag-comply ka na bawal na lumabas pero may ginawa ka sa pinagbabawal nila, inayos mo ‘yong law ng classroom niyo at sinabmit mo ulit ay pwede na pala ikaw lumabas,” she said in a Facebook Live.
Her statement was heavily slammed by netizens, causing her to issue an apology on Instagram by May 9.
Yet, bashers still swarmed Kim, causing her to take a break from social media.
People have since turned Kim’s statement into different versions of songs and remixes.
Songwriter Adrian Crisanto, in an open letter to the Pinoy Big Brother Big Winner, then motivated and urged her to rise from her bashers and record a song inspired by her statement.
Kim accepted his advice, collaborating with him and DJ Squammy for the beat and music arrangement.
She presented the finished product on her YouTube channel last May 18, while saying that she still chooses the positive route with her new single.
“Ang mga problema sa buhay, ‘yan lang ‘yong mga example na magpapatatag sa character natin bilang tao,” Kim said. “Kasi s’yempre dito sa mundo ang daming temptations, ang daming taong makakasakit sa’yo pero [they] will teach you how to grow, how to be yourself. S’yempre ‘yon lang ‘yong magtuturo satn ng mga bagay na hindi natuturo ng ibang tao sa’tin.”
The song amassed 10 million views the same day.
Kim also released merchandise inspired by her “Bawal Lumabas” statement-turned-song, selling out in less than two weeks. Her earnings of P300,000 were spent for relief goods for families affected by the COVID-19 lockdown.
By October, “Bawal Lumabas” was announced by Kim herself as an original series.
Back at Kim’s post wherein she was crying, she concluded her post by giving advice to those who have made mistakes in the past.
“When you make a ‘mistake’, don’t look back at it long,” she went on. “Take the reason of the thing into your mind and then look forward. ‘Mistakes’ are lessons of wisdom. The past cannot be changed. The future is yet in your power.”
The official trailer for Bawal Lumabas starring Kim is available at the official YouTube channel of iWantTFC and is available for streaming at the said digital platform on December 14.
