Vhong and Kim, clarify “dasurv” spiels on It’s Showtime
Vhong Navarro and Kim Chiu, accused of targeting ex-President Duterte.
Vhong Navarro and Kim Chiu responded to the accusation that their opening spiels on It’s Showtime yesterday, Wednesday, March 12, 2025, targeted the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

According to Vhong and Kim, they only read the script on the teleprompter.

To prove his statement is true, Vhong released on his X (formerly Twitter) account a screenshot of the spiels written by the writer of It’s Showtime and read by him.

It reads: “WHAT’S UP, WHAT’S UP, MADLANG PEOPLE!

“IT LOOKS LIKE THERE’S SOMETHING DIFFERENT IN YOUR SMILE NOW! IT LOOKS LIKE YOU’RE INSPIRED!

“YUNG NGITING HAS A REASON TO GET UP!

“THAT’S HOW IT IS, THAT’S HOW IT IS!

“DESPITE THE CHAOS AND NOISE, I HOPE YOU FIND YOUR REASON TO BREATHE… AND YOUR BREATH!

“I SAY – DASURV!!!Apart from releasing a screenshot of the script he read, Vhong explained that he was just doing his job and had no bad intentions.

I was just working and I was just reading my spiels. I had no bad intentions. Love and peace! pic.twitter.com/Xu6JJIkTeC

KIM CHIU: fact check first
Kim also used her X account to refute the malicious accusations and criticisms she received from Duterte supporters. Part of what Kim said on the show: “And as for their feelings, the right time has not yet come for them… what we can say, dasurv!

“Wait, I’m not done yet… you guys are taking a dig at life!!!”

Vhong and Kim are trending because many Duterte supporters are convinced that their opening spiels on It’s Showtime yesterday were a parody of the former President.

Kim defended herself through a series of posts on X:

The actress-TV host said in her first tweet: “Hey! You’re crazy. I just read our script for the spiels. You guys are really cool! Let’s just spread kindness and good vibes.”

Her next post: “Hala, that’s crazy! Why did I join in there?!!! Like O to the M to the G!!!

“I’m busy with other things. God, don’t get involved in that. It’s like a pity. The world is already in chaos. Let’s not add to it. “It’s just a joke.”

Kim’s final message: “It’s important to #FactCheck before judging and accusing someone. Let’s all be responsible citizens. Let’s help each other, not destroy each other. God bless everyone.”

THE ABS-CBN FRANCHISE
Netizens are probably linking Vhong and Kim’s spiels to the loss of ABS-CBN’s franchise, on July 10, 2020, under the administration of Rodrigo Duterte.

Duterte had previously admitted that he used his “presidential powers” against the former No. 1 TV network in the country.

According to a CNN Philippines report, Duterte said this during the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected local government officials on June 27, 2022, a few days before the end of his term as President of the Philippines.

Duterte’s statement: “I used the presidential powers to tell Congress that you are dealing with scoundrels and if you continue to kowtow with them, kawawa ang Pilipino.”

This part of his speech can be watched at around 14:48 of the video below.

ABS-CBN went off the air at exactly 7:52 pm on May 5, 2022 after the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) issued a cease and desist order due to the network’s franchise expiring.

Congress ultimately rejected ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal application on July 10, 2020, by a vote of 70-11.

In his speech in Davao, Duterte insisted that ABS-CBN did not pay taxes, “That’s why I really hate them.”

This was despite government agencies, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), having said in February 2020 that ABS-CBN had not violated any corporate laws and that it regularly paid taxes.

According to critics, Duterte’s issue with ABS-CBN is personal because of the network’s thorough reporting on his administration’s war on drugs in which thousands have died.

In an ambush interview with the Malacañang press on April 27, 2017, President Duterte threatened to block ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal.

The network allegedly did not air his presidential campaign ads in 2016, even though they were paid for.

He also threatened to file a formal complaint with the House of Representatives regarding what he called the network’s fraud.

At that time, the House Committee on Legislative Franchises had not yet discussed the bill by Nueva Ecija Representative Micaela Violago to grant ABS-CBN a new 25-year franchise.

At an event in Davao City on May 19, 2017, Duterte once again criticized ABS-CBN.

The President specifically criticized ABS-CBN Chairman Emeritus Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III for not airing his campaign ads in 2016.

Gabby is the son of Geny Lopez Jr.

This time, the President threatened to file multiple syndicated estafa charges against the network.

The company also allegedly did not return the more than PHP2 million he paid for his political ads that did not air.

During the opening of a drug rehabilitation facility in Bukidnon on August 3, 2018, President Duterte threatened for the second time that he would block the granting of a new franchise to ABS-CBN.

Due to the loss of ABS-CBN’s franchise, this resulted in the closure of programs and the loss of jobs for ABS-CBN employees.
