Leyte 4th District Representative Richard Gomez believes that the accusations made against his political opponent, to destroy his integrity and the desire to divert attention from his success for public safety.

This is related to the allegation of former Leyte 3rd District Rep. Vicente “Ching” Veloso, that’s Gomez, was sued for conspiracy, grave coercion, and grave threat along with other members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in connection with the death in the barangay of Anthony Nuñez.

“I suggest that he just gather enough courage to face his trial in court. I’m sure he knows how the justice system works in this country. If he’s really innocent then there’s nothing to fear. Only the guilty ones will panic when the long arm of the law reaches the criminals, unearthing skeletons from the past,” replied the congressman in a text message sent to Superbalita Cebu.

Earlier, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Major Crimes Investigation Unit (CIDG-MCIU) refiled the murder case to the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

Based on the investigation report, the respondents are: Vicente ‘Ching’ Veloso III, retired CA Associate Justice and former congressman (3rd District of Leyte); Nicolas Banez alias Butoy, William Louse Languido, Richan Dejon Pernis alias Pernis Rexon, Edwin Comendador,

The said case is about the death of the barangay councilor in Malawaan, Tabango, Leyte, namely Anthony Nuñez who was reportedly shot dead in a fight on January 23, 2016.

The aforementioned allegation was strongly denied by Veloso.
