‘Plain love and lust’: Robin Padilla clarifies he’s not endorsing marital rape
Senator Robin Padilla is setting the record straight that he is not suggesting husbands force their wives into having $3x

Padilla made the clarification after drawing intense flak over his comments on whether husbands have ‘sexual rights” to their wives during a Senate hearing.

“I didn’t say it’s ok to force a wife to have $3x. Where is that in the hearing?” he said in a Facebook post.

“What I’m saying is, how do we men believe in sexual rights when we’re in heat. Not drunk. Not violent. Not under the influence of any drugs or liquor. Plain love and lust,” he said.

He explained that his questions during the Senate hearing were all about getting legal clarity on marital obligations especially when the husband has sexual urges.

“My point is not about rape. The point is what a husband can do to make it legal for a man to ask for $3x

without it being rape,” he said.

“I didn’t say it was okay to force a woman,” he stressed.

Padilla earlier addressed his queries about husbands’ supposed ‘sexual rights’ over their wives to human rights lawyer Lorna Kapunan. The lawyer, a resource person to a hearing on sexual harassment in the entertainment industry, gave the senator a lecture about consent and respect in relationships.

When Padilla asked what husbands should do if they are “in the mood” and their wives are not, Kapunan replied they can seek counseling, pray or just watch Netflix instead.

According to Kapunan, rape applies if the husband forces the wife to have sex with him. She added that it is “not the wife’s obligation to serve her husband.”

Amid the backlash, the actor-turned-senator, who is married to actress Mariel Padilla, apologized to anyone offended by his remarks.

In his Facebook post, Padilla defended his comments about sexual rights, citing teachings from both Christian and Muslim faiths.

“I grew up in the Bible. It’s clear that women are subservient to men,” he said.
