In the actor’s words, he implied that he and Elisse had other issues.

McCoy said, “I had no intention of hurting anyone or cheating. It just got to the point where the problem was too big, so I gave up.”

At the same time, McCoy also seems to have defended the woman he is involved with, Mary Joy.
