Kathryn Bernardo was revealed to have helped a former Goin’ Bulilit co-star, who has faced personal and financial issues, finish their studies.
The revelation came from the comedy show’s director Edgar “Bobot” Mortiz during the actress’ contract renewal with Star Magic last Friday, February 2.
Via a video message, Mortiz said Kathryn provided financial assistance for one of her fellow Goin’ Bulilit alumni after their father passed away. He opted not to reveal the person’s identity, as they are no longer active in show business.
“Hindi ko alam na ginagawa pala ni Kathryn, na natuwa ako. Nakita ko ‘yung nanay ng isang ‘Bulilit’ tapos kinwento niya sa’kin noong namatay ang tatay nito, ang nagpa-aral sa kanya si Kathryn,” Mortiz said. “Tuwang-tuwa ako na hindi pala siya nakakalimot sa mga kasama niya. Proud na proud ako.”
Kathryn was asked about this generous gesture during an interview with ABS-CBN News, saying that her batchmate’s father was a friend of her mom and when he died, the batchmate had to stop their career in showbiz.
“During that time kasi, the dad [ay] naging kaibigan namin ni Mama. Sabay [siya samin] kakain and then for a time, nag-stop mag-artista ‘yung tao na ‘to,” she said.
“And then naka-receive kami ng message from the mom na ito ‘yung nangyari sa dad tsaka ‘di na rin siya naga-artista,” she added. “Bilang nakasama mo, siyempre tutulong ka hangga’t kaya mo.”
“Yun din kasi [ang] ni-promise namin ni mama sa dad niya na tutulungan namin kasi ito ‘yung isa sa dreams ng dad niya para sa kanya, na makatapos ng college because they’re so smart and masarap tulungan kasi masipag,” she said.
