Claudine Barretto defends Julia Barretto: ‘Pamangkin ko pa rin ‘yun’
MANILA, Philippines — Despite their family drama that trended on social media, actress Claudine Barretto disagreed that her niece Julia Barretto’s showbiz career is going downhill.
“Ako, mayroon akong sama ng loob kay Julia, everybody knows that. But I don’t wanna think na bumabagsak ang career n’ya. Ako, since I’m also here in show business, ang mas pagkakaintindi ko, she’s struggling like everyone else,” Claudine said during last Monday’s virtual Viva Films and Borracho Entertainment press conference for “Deception”, her reunion movie with ex-boyfriend Mark Anthony Fernandez.
Claudine, who in March 2020 replied to an internet user that Julia Montes is a better actress than her niece, said at last week’s press con that she, too, had been waiting for a good project for the daughter of her sister Marjorie.
“And even if she — wala pang mga tsismis tungkol kay Julia — she was really waiting, we were all just waiting for the right project to come to her. Kasi nga ang problema, marami sila. May JaDine, may KathNiel, may LizQuen, may JoshLia. Ngayon, mayroong JuRald,” Claudine said.
Despite their differences, Claudine stressed that blood is still thicker than water.
“Medyo nega nga ang mga nasusulat para sa mga pamangkin ko, pero at the end of the day, pamangkin ko pa rin ‘yun eh. Hindi ako naniniwala na babagsak kasi sa akin, nangyari na ‘yan, ilang beses na, lalo na nu’ng mga rebellious days ko, pero hindi s’ya bumagsak. Naging mellow lang s’ya. And we just need a good project for her.”
She also declared that she believes in her niece’s acting chops, contrary to her previous reply to an internet user.
“Alam ko dugong Barretto ‘yan. Magaling ‘yan. Saka may dugong Dennis Padilla ‘yan, so magaling s’ya sa comedy.”
“The difference between sa young stars before sa young stars ngayon, is that ang dami-dami nila… And parang mas commercial sila kaysa sa acting. So ‘yun ‘yung napansin ko sa mga teen stars ngayon, sa mga love teams na ‘yan.”
