After Liza Soberano’s controversial return to ABS-CBN, veteran showbiz columnist Cristy Fermin couldn’t hold back her strong opinions about the actress. In her program, Fermin gave a scathing statement, criticizing Liza’s decision to return to the network she previously left to try her career in Hollywood.
According to Cristy, Liza seems ungrateful after all the support ABS-CBN has given her for many years. She also said that the actress was not successful in her Hollywood venture, which is why she returned to the Philippines. “She didn’t get anything in Hollywood, so there you go, she’s back. And where’s her independence?” said Fermin.
Because of these strong statements, Liza’s fans did not hesitate and immediately responded on social media. Many fans said Cristy’s words were unfair and defended the actress, insisting that it is normal for an artist to try different opportunities. “Liza has the right to her career, not Cristy Fermin!” according to a netizen.
In addition, some fans also said that Fermin seems to have a personal grudge against Liza because of his repeated criticism of the actress. Some others said that Liza’s return to ABS-CBN is proof of her love for the showbiz industry in the Philippines.
Despite the intense response on social media, Liza remains tight-lipped about the issue. There has been no statement from her camp yet, but this heated debate is certainly not over.
Cristy Fermin reminds Liza Soberano of her “pikon”: “The intrigue and comments are more intense in Hollywood and Korea.”
Showbiz writer/host and insider Cristy Fermin gave a reminder to actress Liza Soberano.
On her radio and online show with Romel Chika, Cristy Ferminute, today, September 25, they discussed the issue that Liza was recently involved in.
The former Kapamilya star was reportedly upset about an article about it, which is why she reminded the actress.
“Well, the negative comments about Liza Soberano are blazing right now because of her being upset about the article that was released by Inquirer.com and Bandera,” Manay Cristy said on her show.
“Well, they responded with, ‘Don’t you have anything better to do than to pay attention to the dreams of someone like me? What do you want?’ Things like that. Oh, she was bombarded with a barrage of comments,” he continued.
He was referring to Liza’s post on X (formerly Twitter) on September 21 where she lashed out at media entities.
The now-deleted post by @inquirerdotnet states, “Liza Soberano was laughed at by bashers: ‘Oh my, what are you doing, where is the Hollywood dream?’ | via @banderaphl.”
This stemmed from Liza allegedly putting aside her Hollywood dream for now due to the ongoing actor’s union strike in America, which is why she is focusing on creating online content in Korea.
She reposted the @inquirerdotcom news on her X account and said, “What kind of journalism is this @inquirerdotnet @banderaphl?? You guys are straight shitting on a young woman’s dream in the pursuit of clicks and comments. Don’t you guys have more important news to talk about??????” Her supporters sided with the actress but there were also netizens who continued to bash her.
“‘There, there. Your true nature is coming out. From a gentle sheep, you’re now a tiger.’ That’s how she does it,” said Manay Cristy.
Romel commented on this, saying that maybe Liza was just really upset because her desire to penetrate Hollywood so proudly was thwarted.
“But Romel, we already discussed this in our previous episode. She should have known what she was getting into,” reminded the veteran showbiz insider.
“She didn’t enter the carnival where everyone would applaud her for her humor. She also wouldn’t be applauded and praised just like that,” she said, speaking in real talk.
“She needs to show a receipt. And she can’t just read and hear praise.”
According to her, Liza shouldn’t be so upset when there are these kinds of write-ups or comments about her.
“Natural… Well, you’re a public figure, naturally. Your heart and soul should be prepared for what our countrymen might say about you. Well, here you go, this is how you’re so upset,” Manay Cristy pointed out.
“So why shout at her? ‘Hey, Liza Soberano, you’re so upset, you’re a loser. And then that’s what happens when you’re ungrateful and don’t know how to appreciate the people who helped you. That’s what happens to you,’” she added.
“It’s going to hurt [what others say], right?”
Romel said he didn’t expect Liza to react like that after all this time as an actress and always being intrigued.
“We were just really surprised by her behavior as if she wasn’t ready. She should have been ready, eh… she’s ready, our countrymen are coming back to her because she started all this, so this is the fruit of her planting these things,” he said.
Manay Cristy reminded the actress that, as netizens say, the comments and intrigue are more intense with Hollywood stars and Korean celebrities. How will she survive there if she’s already been caught off guard here.
“The commentators say that even in Hollywood, people’s reviews and comments against them will be even more intense. And you should be even more prepared in Korea if you are about to enter what you call the ‘next Hollywood,’” he said.
“The intrigue and comments with Koreans will be even more intense. They will be even more destructive. It’s terrible. You might get even more angry there,” Manay Cristy concluded.
