Philippine politics have been rocked again as former Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles publicly criticized President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., calling him a “liar” for his actions regarding former President Rodrigo Duterte (FPRRD). The strong statements quickly sparked a fierce debate on social media, leading the public to raise questions about the rift between the two leaders.
Attorney Trixie, who served in the Marcos Jr. administration before resigning, has recently made sharp comments about President Marcos Jr.’s treatment of his predecessor—Rodrigo Duterte. She did not hesitate to declare that Marcos Jr. betrayed Duterte, who had publicly supported him in the 2022 presidential election.
According to lawyer Trixie’s statements, Bongbong Marcos is said to have made many commitments to the FPRRD and his supporters, but after gaining power, he did not fulfill those promises.
She criticized that Marcos Jr. had “ignored” the values that the Duterte administration had built, and failed to protect the former president’s legacy, especially in security, anti-drug and economic development policies.
Lawyer Trixie’s statements come at a time when the relationship between the Marcos family and Duterte is increasingly tense. Previously, former President Rodrigo Duterte also made ambiguous statements, expressing dissatisfaction with Marcos Jr. about the way he ran the country. “So many things were promised, but in the end, they were just lies. This betrayal is not only aimed at the FPRRD but also at the millions of Filipinos who believed in that promise,” lawyer Trixie emphasized.
Immediately after these statements were made, the online community immediately went into an uproar. Some Duterte supporters expressed their agreement with lawyer Trixie, saying that Marcos Jr. had broken his promise. Meanwhile, those loyal to President Marcos Jr. criticized her, saying that this was just a political ploy to weaken the current administration.
