Many on the internet love intrigue so much so that they tend to jump to conclusions pretty quickly. Case in point: the recent breakup speculations between celebrity couple Marco Gumabao and Cristine Reyes.

Nowadays, people enjoy scrutinizing the social media accounts of celebrities, most of the time reading too much into every post. So when Marco celebrated his 30th birthday last August 14, and his girlfriend’s birthday greeting was nowhere to be found—the separation rumors began. It spread like wildfire, particularly due to the fact that Cristine’s public Instagram account was deactivated.

Cristine’s sister, Ara Mina, was the first to shed light on the breakup rumors. In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph, Ara disclosed that her sister just wanted some time off social media.

“Ayaw niya muna mag-social media,” Ara told PEP.ph. She added that everything was okay with Cristine and Marco. Besides, Cristine has been preparing for her upcoming film, The Kingdom.

“Ok sila, walang problem, she’s concentrating lang sa movie na ginagawa niya,” Ara assured in the interview.

Marco Gumabao and Cristine Reyes shut down breakup rumors

Everyone was still waiting for a birthday greeting from Cristine, or perhaps a photo of the couple together, to confirm that they’re still in a relationship. So, Marco and Cristine had their own ways of quashing the rumors.

Cristine, as a result of having her Instagram deactivated, posted on Facebook stories. She uploaded a photo of her with Marco with the caption, “Mahal ko yan. 30 na yan siya.”

Then came Marco’s response to the speculations. He did it in a very low-key manner, but it was enough to let people know that they are still together. On August 15, he uploaded a video via IG story of him and Cristine celebrating his birthday. Perhaps they were too busy to celebrate his special day on the exact day; or maybe they wanted to enjoy quality time together without having to post in real time on social media.

Either way, what we do know is that they’re still a couple—and that Cristine has a private IG account which Marco tagged in his Instagram story. Celebrities can have private social media accounts too, you know 😉

The two became publicly official in April 2023. Marco ~flexed~ Cristine on his feed, posting a carousel of their sweet couple pics (they look sooo good together) and a sentimental caption to accompany it. “You are my home and adventure all at once,” he wrote.

And in case you’re curious, Marco and Cristine’s romance began because of their love for working out. In an interview with Luis Manzano, Cristine shared that it was because Marco was always asking to have workout sessions.

“Lumipat siya sa Makati. Ako sa Taguig. Lagi siyang nagya-yaya na mag-workout, ganyan. So ako naman, akala ko, barkadahan lang ‘yun kasi we were with Jake Cuenca pa noon,” Cristine began her story. She continued, “And then all of a sudden, si Jake napunta na sa Cebu kasi nag-taping siya ng Iron Heart. So naiwan kaming dalawa ni Marco.”

What appeared to be simple joint workout sessions at first eventually became “date workouts” where they developed not just their strength but their solid romantic feelings for each other. “So instead of ma-work out ‘yung physical ano namin, na-work out ‘yung feelings,” Cristine humorously said.
