Marian downplays the title, stating that her true aim is to collect items that bring her joy.
“Ako, ang point ko lang, parang ang saya lang mag-collect,” she tells PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an exclusive interview on Friday, October 25, 2024.
This quick chat is held during Home Credit Philippines’ 11th Anniversary celebration held at TriNoMa mall in Quezon City.
Marian reveals that her collection began with Hello Kitty items, long before she discovered Pop Mart.
However, the increasing popularity of the latter has rekindled her passion for toy collecting.
She recalls, “Actually, nagko-collect naman talaga ako before which is Hello Kitty.
“At siyempre, naiiba minsan yung pananaw mo sa buhay at mga goal mo at mga ginagawa mo.
“Siyempre, nag-asawa ko, nagkaanak ako, pero bilang malalaki na yung mga anak mo, parang bumalik ulit ako dun sa, ‘Ay, na-inspire uli ako!'”
Marian reiterates the motivation behind her growing toy collection: it’s neither to show off nor to impress people.
“At siyempre, ginagawa ko ito for myself. Kasi every time na bumibili ako, grabe yung ligaya na naidudulot sa akin.
“Kasi gagawin mo ito para sa sarili mo, hindi to show off sa ibang tao. Di ba? Yun naman dapat yun, for yourself.”
When asked to choose her favorite Pop Mart character, Marian finds it difficult to select just one.
“Ayoko, ayoko [mamili],” she says, “Lahat sila favorite ko.”
Eventually, Marian picks “Dimoo, si Royal Molly, and si Skull Panda—silang tatlo.”
Which one is her absolute favorite?
She replies, “…si Dimoo talaga yung number one para sa akin… Parang anak kong lalaki. Ang cute!”
