For Emmy-nominated Japanese actor Takehiro Hira, the unique story showcasing father’s love is the reason he decided to do the drama-thriller movie “Crosspoint” with Filipino actor Carlo Aquino.

“When I first read the script I thought it was very unique. It’s a thriller but it’s really a story of love. For me, father’s love to a daughter. And I have a daughter. … So you know a lot of what’s in the script resonated with me. So I was really happy to be part of it,” Hira told ABS-CBN News in an online interview.

“Crosspoint” is drama-thriller film about a washed-up actor Manuel (Aquino) who goes to Japan and meets Shigeru (Hira), a bankrupt businessman and father to Mayuko (Kei Kurosawa). Manuel and Shigeru decide to catch a fugitive to get the reward money in order to solve their problems.

The film is written and directed by Japan-based Filipino filmmaker Donie Ordiales.

Hira, who showed his versatility as an actor taking on various roles both TV and film, said that the movie’s theme shows how someone makes sacrifices for their loved ones.

“This ‘Crosspoint’ the theme in the movie is like that — give more than your life, give more than you can give or the best that you can get to your loved ones.”

In the interview, Takehiro also said he enjoyed being part of the creative process of the movie and his experience working with Filipino actors and director.

He was all smiles when sharing his experience working with Aquino, whom he described as an excellent actor.

“Obviously very talented actor. He was really gentle, subtle with his expression and I just love working with him,” said Hira, who said he would love to work with Aquino again if given a chance.

Hira also shared his thoughts being directed by Filipino filmmaker Ordiales: “Donie spent a lot of time and energy, passion into this project. We’re talking about the script, how we’re gonna have the scene and all the discussions. He’s fantastic, very talented. I would like to work with him again and I think he did a tremendous job.”

Hira revealed  that he hasn’t been working in Japan for over five years. “Crosspoint” was 80% shot in Japan.

“I really enjoyed shooting. Like I haven’t work in Japan for like almost six, seven years. So it was really like refreshing, even the cold and the bento. I kinda like it, I love every part of it,” said Hira, who has been busy doing international projects like “Shogun.”

“Crosspoint,” which will open in Philippine cinemas on October 16, is also slated for a screening in Japan next year.

“Please come to the theaters near you for ‘Crosspoint’ starting October 16,” Hira said.

“Crosspoint” also stars Sarah Jane Abad, Ian de Leon, Zeppi Borromeo, Dindo Arroyo, and Polo Ravales.

Hira is one of the stars of award-wining Japan-set historical epic “Shogun,” which made history at the Emmy Awards, winning 18 awards.
