Not only did June Mar Fajardo improve his defense for San Miguel’s 102-99 win over Barangay Ginebra, but he also set a personal milestone in career rebounds on Friday night.

This was after Fajardo recorded his 2,011th career offensive rebound against the Gin Kings, which puts him in the league of PBA legends like Ramon Fernandez, Abet Guidaben, Jerry Codiñera, Asi Taulava, and Ali Peek, who recorded at least 2,000 offensive rebounds.

“Oo nga e. Kanina sinabi sa’kin pero hindi naman ‘yun goal. Pero, masaya ako na nakakuha ako ng ganun,” he said in a video interview posted on social media by Tiebreaker Times.

“Thankful ako na nakaka-break ako ng records.”

Fajardo said it was coach Jorge Gallent who has been motivating him to grab more rebounds.

“Sabi nila coach, kailangan ko talaga kumuha ng rebounds. China-challenge ako ni coach. Nung last game, mababa lang ‘yung rebounds ko,” said Fajardo.

“China-challenge niya ‘ko, ‘O may utang ka sa akin na rebounds a.’ ‘Sige, coach.’ So, ayun, ine-encourage ako nina coach.”

Against Ginebra, he grabbed a total of 18 rebounds.
