Another Premier League record has been matched this weekend.

Tottenham and Arsenal equalled Premier League history in the first half of the north London derby.

The score was 0-0 at half time, despite Arsenal having a host of chances.

However, Gabriel Martinelli missed a key chance to put the Gunners ahead, with Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario in top form.

Ange Postecoglou’s side had opportunities of their own, with Brennan Johnson firing over, and had comfortable control over possession.

But the game threatened to boil over shortly before the break following a foul from Jurrien Timber on Spurs’ Pedro Porro.

Timber appeared to lift his left boot and connect with the ankle of Porro as he attempted to shield the ball, but the Dutchman was facing away from his opponent.

Referee Jarred Gillett awarded a yellow card to Timber, with Vicario also getting booked for grabbing Timber’s shirt with both hands in the aftermath.

That incident almost sparked a mass brawl, with both sets of players crowding around each other in an attempt to break the pair up.

The players received two of seven cautions in what was a bad-tempered first half at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

That equalled a Premier League record for the most yellow cards in the first half of a match, as per OptaJoe.

Five of the cautions were awarded to Spurs players, with Destiny Udogie, Rodrigo Bentancur, Micky van de Ven and Dejan Kulusevski all receiving yellow cards.

And William Saliba joined Timber in the book for Arsenal after delaying the restart.

Both Ange Postecoglou and Mikel Arteta decided against making substitutions at half-time, with Arsenal midfielder Jorginho then becoming the eighth player to be booked for holding on 49 minutes.

Arsenal then took the lead on 68 minutes when centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes rose highest for a corner to power a header beyond Vicario in the Spurs goal.

The goal put Arsenal on course to win their ninth Premier League away match in 10 attempts in 2024.

And Arteta’s side held on to secure a 1-0 win and move into second place in the Premier League table.
