The new signing has already been cast aside.

Newcastle United have already told one of their summer signings that he is not part of their long-term plans.

The Magpies were busy during the summer transfer window as several players had to leave the club in order to bring in money so that they could comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

However, that didn’t stop Newcastle from signing a couple of players during the window, with former Chelsea defender Lewis Hall demanding the largest transfer fee over the summer.

But now, just weeks after the transfer deadline, one new incoming has been told that he is out of the first-team plans.

Greek goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos arrived to St James’ Park from Nottingham Forest for a reported fee of £20million, with Elliot Anderson going the other way.

However, a new report from The Athletic reveals that Newcastle United were not particularly keen on brining Vlachodimos to the club, but as the deal was completed on the PSR deadline, felt that could not negotiate as they needed to bring in the money from selling Anderson.

The goalkeeper never featured in any of the Geordie club’s lists of transfer targets, and yet signed as the club’s most expensive No.1 in history and ranks 14th on the list of Newcastle’s record signings.

And despite the price tag, Vlachodimos will reportedly be left out of the team for this weekend’s Premier League fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers and has not been included in any of Newcastle’s matchday squads this season.

Furthermore, he has reportedly been told that he is the fourth choice for the position and can start looking for a move away from St James’ Park.

But the 30-year-old declined and appears to be determined to fight his way through the ranks at Newcastle and prove himself worthy of challenging first choice keeper Nick Pope.

Vlachodimos failed to impress at previous club Nottingham Forest, who he only joined on deadline day in summer 2023 for an initial fee of £7.7m.

In his year at the club, the Greek international made just seven appearances despite believing he had signed on to be the club’s first choice goalkeeper.
