Arteta has reportedly agreed to a new long-term contract at Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta has reportedly been given a huge pay increase for committing his long-term future to Arsenal.

Arteta, 42, has committed himself to the Gunners by agreeing to a new three-year deal at the Emirates, which will keep him at the club until 2027.

The Athletic reported on Thursday that Arteta had agreed to the extension, although Arsenal are yet to confirm the news.

Arteta’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of this season but both parties have moved early to ‘eliminate any uncertainty’ over his future.

Earlier this summer, the Daily Mail reported that Arsenal were set to offer Arteta a massive pay increase to keep him at the club.

The report claimed the Premier League were preparing to hand Arteta ‘the most lucrative’ contract Arsenal ‘has ever offered any manager’.

It was claimed that Arteta would see ‘his earnings sky rocket from his current £9million-a-season wage’, propelling him to a salary closer towards rival Pep Guardiola’s £20million-a-season deal at Manchester City.

GiveMeSport have now claimed that Arteta is set to earn around £15m each season under the terms of his new deal.

Arteta has been central to Arsenal’s rise in recent seasons since he replaced Unai Emery as head coach in 2019.

After winning the FA Cup in 2020, Arteta returned Arsenal to the Champions League in 2023 after a seven-year absence, thanks to finishing second in the Premier League behind Manchester City.

They finished runners-up to City for second successive campaign last season and have taken two wins and a draw from their opening three games in the 2024/25 campaign.

Arsenal have moved swiftly to tie Arteta down to a new long-term deal, following interest in him from Barcelona in his native Spain.

Arteta was strongly linked with the Catalan giants before they appointed Hansi Flick as Xavi’s replacement as head coach earlier this summer.

Speaking last month, Arteta reassured Arsenal fans he was committed to the club.

“I don’t think anybody has to panic. We have done it in the past and it has never been an issue – and I don’t expect that to happen,” he said.

“I’m in the place where I want to be and am really happy – hopefully the club thinks the same thing.

“I work with the players every day and when I am talking to them, having discussions and planning things, you sense in their eyes that belief and hunger is still there.”
