During the international break, midfielder Harvey Elliott joined up with the England Under 21’s side.

But according to Paul Joyce from The Times, he suffered a fractured foot in one of the sessions and had to pull out of the squad.

The former Fulham man complained of discomfort and he is now poised to be out of action until late October.

It is a frustrating bit of news for Elliott, who has only managed seven minutes in three games under new boss Arne Slot.

He came on for a late cameo in the 2-0 win over Brentford at Anfield.

With seven games coming thick and fast in a three-week period, Elliott will miss out on the chance to impress Slot after a lack of game-time thus far.

Elliott was primarily used as a super sub under Jurgen Klopp and developed a knack of making an impact from the bench.

It’s said Slot sees him as an attacking midfielder or No.10, with the arrival of £10 million addition Federico Chiesa from Juventus sparking the end of Elliott featuring as a wide player.

He is understood to have been keen to shake off the super sub tag and become a regular starter but has now been hit with a setback in his bid to do so.

But there is a timely boost for Liverpool as midfielder Curtis Jones is believed to be fit for the game against Nottingham Forest this weekend.

Jones missed Liverpool’s last two fixtures with a muscle problem and is still searching for his first appearance of the season.
