Liverpool set to make stunning move for ex-Man United star on free transfer that could prove to be genius

 

Liverpool could make a shock move for an ex-Manchester United star.

Liverpool are reportedly interested in making a shock move for a former Manchester United player.

The Reds had a quiet transfer window this summer after only bringing in Italian winger Federico Chiesa from Juventus.

Liverpool have also agreed a deal to sign Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who will move to Anfield at the end of the current campaign.

Looking ahead to the January transfer window, it has been claimed that Liverpool could target a former United player.

As reported by The Sun, Liverpool are one of four clubs interested in signing Lille midfielder Angel Gomes.

The 24-year-old was recently called up to the England squad by interim boss Lee Carsley.

The report stated that Newcastle United have placed Gomes on the top of their wishlist but will face competition from Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and German Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund.

Gomes could become a free transfer at the end of the season as his contract is due to expire.

After coming on as a substitute during the Republic of Ireland clash and starting against Finland, Gomes was praised by Carsley.

He said: “He loves football, he watches football, he’s interested in tactics. He knows all the players in any league.

“If you ask him for any feedback, you need to be prepared that he’s going to give you some feedback on the session, or how we’re going to build up, or the positions.”

Carsley added: “He’ll often say about some build-ups he’s done with other clubs, or what he’s played against, because he’s obviously playing in France, so he sees different things.”

Ex-United captain Roy Kean said on ITV: “He’s [Gomes] constantly available. There’s great options. There will probably be a bit of a headache for him.”

Arsenal legend Ian Wright added: “Angel Gomes. Jack [Grealish] and Trent [Alexander-Arnold] have been spoken about.

“Seeing Gomes in that midfield, constantly on the move. His touch of the ball. He’s [Gomes] constantly available. There’s great options. There will probably be a bit of a headache for him.”
