Chelsea have offloaded more 40 players this summer and one player has revealed he considered moving on.

Chelsea offloaded 40 players in the summer transfer window but one of their current stars revealed he considering moving on.

David Datro Fofana looked set to become the 41st departee from Chelsea, with a loan move to Greek Super League side AEK Athens falling through.

The club and the player’s representatives are still looking for a solution for the player.

But his namesake Wesley has opened up on an offer he received during the summer window.

Fofana, a £70 million signing from Leicester City in 2022, has played 90 minutes in all three of Chelsea’s Premier League games.

He is a regular starter under new boss Enzo Maresca but Fofana did have a tempting proposal from boyhood club Marseille which he did consider.

Former Bayern Munich and Roma defender Mehdi Benatia, currently sporting director at the club, was in contact with Fofana.

However, he ultimately decided to persist with Chelsea and establish himself at Stamford Bridge.

“I had a conversation [this summer] that really touched me,’ Fofana told Free Foot, as per the Daily Mail.

“I would be lying if I said I didn’t weigh it up. It was from [Mehdi] Benatia, Marseille’s sporting director.

“It touched me and I think everyone knows why.

“I thought about it but there you go, the current objective is to succeed at Chelsea, to try and play regularly, and to establish myself at my club.”

Before he joined Leicester for £35 million in 2020 Fofana came through the ranks at Saint-Etienne.

But he is from Marseille and he has always supported Les Phoceens, which could mean he chooses to represent them one day.

He added: “But OM, we’ll see one day. I still have a contract until 2029 and we’ll see after that. I have never hidden it, [Marseille] is my city, my club, I am an OM supporter.

“We’ll see if I end up being at Marseille in a few years, or if I stay at Chelsea for the rest of my career.”
